Sugar-Sweetened Beverage Taxation as Public Health Policy- Lessons from Tobacco

This paper briefly reviews the findings from research on the effectiveness of higher tobacco taxes in reducing tobacco use, as well as the evidence addressing the frequently used arguments raised in opposition to tobacco tax increases; highlights the “best practices” in tobacco taxation; and discusses the implications for sugar-sweetened beverage taxes.
